Why parents should NEVER bad mouth teachers.

Parents casually bad mouth teachers while talking to other parents or in the presence of their children. Sometimes they bad mouth teachers while having a conversation with their children. They say bad things about the school, management and talk in poor light about the school policies. They indulge in slander and gossip about the shortcomings of the teachers. They point fingers and make jokes about the teachers. Sometimes they even mimic the teachers in a bad way. Complaining about the fees and how the school is only interested in making money. How the school is duping the parents and charging exorbitantly for the services they tender so poorly.

While these compliant may be partially or wholly true but many a times they are exaggerated. Schools and teachers could be wrong occasionally, they could make mistakes, they are human after all. They can make errors of judgement but at the end of the day their sole objective is that your child learns and becomes a responsible human being.

Parents indulge in bragging to the child in order to demonstrate their love for them by letting them know that they are letting the school exploit them because they care for the wellbeing of their child. How much pain they endure due to the atrocities of the school just because they love their children.

Sometimes it’s done out of frustration other times just to be a hero in the eyes of the spouse or the children. It’s done to make the children obligated and grateful for the sufferings the parents have to undergo so that their child is educated.

Whatever the reason to badmouth teachers and school, do you know that it ultimately affects your child.

Respect is a key element for a student to learn effectively. Respect is vital to develop the Student-Teacher learning relationship. Respect is a key motivator for a teacher to teach effectively. Respect encourages a teacher to tap into their creativity and passion. A teacher will give his best to the students when he is respected and appreciated.

When the students hear the bad mouthing at home about the teachers and the school they feel lowly about the school and the teachers. Their respect levels go low for the teachers and the school. They feel exploited and harbor a secret anger and resentment towards the school and the teachers for exploiting their parents and subjecting them to unnecessary hardships. Students feel responsible for their parents hardships, so they vent it out by hating their teachers and school management. They too badmouth the teachers in the presence of their peers and pass the negative feelings to them. This creates an atmosphere of hate and resentment. These feeling translate into frequent conflicts between teacher and students.

Teachers don’t feel appreciated and slowly loose interest in teaching. Most of the teachers are very strong and can withstand the negative feelings but somewhere in their heart they feel the pain.

The lack of appreciation reduces their enthusiasm and a genius teacher becomes a mediocre teacher.

They teach but fall short of inspiring the students. They gradually keep loosing interest and become mechanical teachers doing their jobs, responsibilities, giving their time and effort, giving their sweat and blood BUT they DON’T give their HEART.

Bad mouthing may help parents and students to vent out their frustration, make the parents a hero but UTIMATELY do a great disservice to their OWN flesh and blood CHILDREN. Parents unknowingly jeopardizing their child’s desire to learn and grow.

Be aware they next time the urge to badmouth a teacher arises dear parents. Think before you utter words of criticism, judgement about your school and teachers. Instead use words of praise and demonstrate reverence towards the teachers and the school. It will positively affect your children and they will become passionate about their school, love and respect their teachers. Their love and interest in education will profoundly increase.
