Trustworthiness the foundation for developing trust

The foundation for any relationship is trust. Without trust there is no meaningful relationship.

Attraction can get you near to someone. Appearance can get you the attention you want. But after the attraction has played it’s role, for the relationship to continue it needs to build on trust.

Attraction is short lived. It’s the honeymoon period of any relationship. The relationship vary but the fundamentals don’t. It could be the relationship of a seller and a buyer, a girl and a boy, a father and his children, husband and wife, a leader and his people. After two people come together by attraction for the relationship to survive, thrive and grow, it needs to build upon the trustworthiness.

Trustworthiness does not build overnight. It needs continuous acts of being trustworthy. It’s a long journey of commitment.

It builds on the multiple opportunities life presents on a daily basis. It builds on making promises and honouring them. Being honest in your dealings. Being truthful in your words and actions. Being present when the need arises.

These acts build on one another to form trustworthiness.

But if you violate any of the above, the reverse happens. Violation of a commitment results in loss of trust and trustworthiness. When you make a promise, keep it no matter how high the cost maybe.

Becoming trustworthy is not easy. It takes a lot of will, intention and dedication.
